Cookie policy

takeit is an independent, early-access project so that small businesses —the bakery, the bar or the greengrocer in a village or a neighbourhood— can have their own website and take orders from phones. Their customers can pick the order up, have it delivered or have it at the shop, depending on what each business offers, and the business keeps its orders organised in one place.

Businesses join by invitation, after a short application on the join page, and the project helps them get started: adding their products, setting their hours and choosing how they deliver and how they get paid.

takeit is still being built: some features may change and others are on the way. There is more about the project on the home page.

takeit provides the software those shops' websites run on.

Each of those websites is run by its owner —a person or a business—, who is responsible for it. Its legal texts (legal notice, terms, privacy and cookies) are on its own website, under /legal on its domain, and they are the ones that govern the purchases, payments and order data made there.

Strictly necessary and screen-preference cookies, set without asking you because the service doesn't work without them or because they only remember how you left the screen:

• Session: keeps you signed in. It lasts 7 days of not being used: while you keep signing in it renews itself, and if you leave it alone for a week it expires. Signing out deletes it. If you sign in with Google, that step also uses a momentary cookie whose job is to check that the return from Google is yours and not somebody else's; it is spent as soon as it finishes.
• Your cookie choice: remembers what you decided in the cookie notice so you aren't asked every time. The cookie expires after a year; the same choice is also kept in the browser's local storage, which doesn't expire and goes when you clear the site's data.
• How you left the dashboard: if you have a shop, they remember on that device whether you left the dashboard's sidebar folded and the text size you chose for it. Two cookies with no data about you: a yes or a no, and one of three sizes. They expire after a year.

What stays on your device and never leaves it

Besides cookies, takeit keeps some things in your own browser's storage. They are not sent to any server and they go when you clear the site's data: the light or dark theme; the draft of a half-filled form (the one to join and the one to set a shop up), so you don't lose it on a reload; if you have a shop, whether you want sound and an alert on that device when an order comes in, and your last five searches in the dashboard —which may carry the name or phone number of a customer you looked up, which is why they are kept per shop and never leave it—; and a copy of the "offline" page, which is kept whenever you visit takeit (you don't have to install it as an app) and is the only thing the device keeps for when there is no connection.

Only if you accept them: visit and performance statistics (which pages are viewed, how long they take to load) measured with Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights, by Vercel Inc., which is the company hosting the platform. Vercel receives the page visited, where you came from and data about your device; no profile of you is built, they are not used for advertising or to follow you across other websites, and without your permission they are not even loaded.

When you pay for an order online, the charge is made by the shop in its own Stripe account, and Stripe sets its own cookies to prevent fraud, one of them lasting almost a year. They are only loaded when the payment form appears: on every other page Stripe isn't loaded at all, and if you pay in person it never is. That processing is governed by Stripe's privacy policy and described in the privacy policy.

You can accept or reject measurement at any time from Cookie settings, which is also in the footer of every page. You can also delete or block cookies in your browser; without the necessary ones you won't be able to sign in.
